GHANBU - Ghana Buruli Ulcer Control Programe

As posed with the issue of complex BU management and control, the Team of experts came up with this idear of the formation of national surgical team to be task with the responsibility of visiting endemic districts for the activity of surgical operations of BU cases.

The team is composed of Plastic surgeons, General surgeons and Medical Doctors from the the country. They every month or two or three in a year visit a Buruli Ulcer endemic facility to carry out surgical operations on complex BU cases which has reached the bad stage and the only therapy left is surgery.

The surgical team on the move programe of the National Buruli Ulcer Control programe is one which has and still making enormouse impact in our quest to contain and manage the complex Buruli Ulcer cases despite variouse challenges that the National Buruli Control Programe goes through.

The Surgical Team does not only goes to carry out such design activity, but also train others in complex surgical treatement which has made a huge impact in some surgical therapy at the variouse facility level.

This policy of action adopted by the National Buruli Ulcer Control programe has done a great deal of goodness in the management of the Buruli Ulcer cases that needs surgical operation.

The team is still imparting a great deal of knowledge into others which is helping in reducing the huge work load that the team has to be burdened with nation wide. It is really a good policy which is yielding very good result and the National Buruli Ulcer Control programme is determined to sustain.

The National Buruli Ulcer control programe has adopted a plan of surgery on a nation wide basis. The idear behind this programe is to have a national surgical team on the move to carry out BU endemic districts or regions visit to undertake routine surgical operations of complex BU surgical cases that need surgical corrections.

This idear was initiated by the National Control Programe at one of our National annual review meetings which brings all the BU Tintans in the country together to strategise for the control and prevention of the disease.
